Q: What is a DWI Substance Use Assessment, and why do I need one?

A: An NC DWI Assessment is a state-mandated clinical evaluation conducted by a Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor. The purpose is to determine the extent of any substance use issues and recommend the required level of education or treatment you must complete to satisfy the court and the DMV for license reinstatement.

Q: How much does the DWI Assessment cost?

A: The fee for a DWI Assessment in North Carolina is $100, which is mandated by the state. This fee must be paid at the time of your assessment.

Q: What documents do I need for my Virtual DWI Assessment?

A: Its not always the case that you have your documents from the charge and at Life Changes Counseling we are able to retrieve many of your documents. It if you have any of these documents that is great:

  • A valid photo ID.

  • Your citation (ticket) or court documents.

  • Your Breathalyzer or blood test results (BAC reading).

  • Your Complete Driving Record from the NC DMV website.

Q: Does the assessment expire?

A: Yes. Your DWI Assessment is only valid for six (6) months from the date it is completed. If you do not start the recommended ADETS or treatment classes within that six-month window, you will have to pay for and complete a new assessment.

Online & Virtual Services

Q: Are your online DWI classes considered Virtual DWI Assessment or "telehealth" and are they legally accepted in North Carolina?

A: Yes. Our services are officially approved by the NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to be delivered via a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. This means your Virtual DWI Assessment and all NC ADETS Classes Online are treated the same as in-person services and are fully accepted by all NC courts and the DMV.

Q: Can I complete my assessment and classes using my phone?

A: Yes, you can use a smartphone, tablet, or computer. For the Virtual DWI Assessment and class attendance, you must have a working camera, microphone, and a stable internet connection, as you must be present and visible for the entire session, as required by state rules.

Q: How quickly can I get an appointment for my Virtual DWI Assessment?

A: We prioritize fast scheduling to help you meet your court deadlines. You can often be scheduled for your NC DWI Assessment within 24-48 hours.

Classes, Treatment, and Eligibility

Q: Are your DWI classes and assessments accepted by the North Carolina DMV?

A: Yes. LC Counseling is a fully licensed and certified provider of DWI Services North Carolina through the NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). All assessments, NC ADETS Classes Online, and treatment programs meet or exceed state requirements for license reinstatement.

Q: What is ADETs?

A: ADETS (Alcohol Drug Education Traffic School) is a 16-hour education program.

Q: How long do the classes take to complete?

A: The duration is based on the recommendation from your assessment:

  • ADETS: 16 hours, typically spread over 5 sessions.

  • Short-Term Treatment: Minimum of 20 hours.

  • Longer-Term Treatment: Minimum of 40 hours.

All classes are scheduled with flexibility to meet your Court-Ordered Substance Abuse Classes requirements efficiently.

Q: Can I attend classes with LC Counseling if I did my assessment at a different agency?

A: Yes! As long as your assessment is within the six-month validity period, we can accept a transfer of your assessment to enroll you in our Online DWI Classes NC or treatment program.

Out-of-State & License Reinstatement

Q: I live outside North Carolina but got a DWI in NC. Can I still use your online DWI services?

A: Yes. We specialize in helping out-of-state residents satisfy the North Carolina requirements. If you were charged with a DWI in NC, you must clear the charge through an NC-licensed provider. Our 100% virtual services are the most convenient way to meet this requirement without traveling.

Q: How do I apply for a Limited Driving Privilege (LDP) in North Carolina?

A: While we provide the mandatory clinical assessment, you must complete the required documentation (DL-123, driving record, etc.) and file the petition in court yourself or with the help of an attorney. Completing your NC DWI Assessment is a mandatory first step toward qualifying for the LDP.

Q: What is the e-508 form, and who submits it?

A: The e-508 form is the official electronic document that certifies to the North Carolina DMV that you have completed your assessment and all recommended DWI Treatment North Carolina. As your licensed provider, LC Counseling is responsible for submitting this form directly to the state once your program is fully completed and all fees are paid.

Q: Once I finish my classes, how do I get my license back?

A: Once you complete your program and pay all outstanding fees, LC Counseling will electronically submit the required e-508 form to the state. This form clears your record with the DMV. You will then need to contact the NC DMV to pay your license reinstatement fee and complete any other requirements they have.
